Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

actuary.info is operated by Coastal Dune Labs LLC. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website, and how we handle the publicly sourced exam data that appears in our exam tools.

Information We Collect

We collect minimal information necessary to operate and improve this site. This includes standard server log data such as IP addresses, browser type, referring pages, and timestamps. We do not require account creation or collect personal information unless you voluntarily provide it (for example, by subscribing to our newsletter or submitting a contact form). Separately, our exam tools republish certain publicly available information about actuarial exam candidates; see "Publicly Sourced Exam Data" below.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the Actuary Daily Brew newsletter, we collect your email address through our newsletter provider, Buttondown. Your email is used solely to deliver newsletter content. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email. We do not sell or share subscriber email addresses with third parties.

Cookies and Local Storage

This site does not currently run third-party analytics or advertising scripts, and it does not set non-essential cookies, which is why you will not see a cookie consent banner. Interactive study tools such as our flashcards store your progress locally in your browser (localStorage); that data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. If we add analytics or advertising in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by law, request consent first.

Analytics

We may review aggregate traffic statistics, such as page views and referring sites, to understand how the site is used. These statistics are compiled from server logs, do not rely on cookies or tracking scripts, and are not used to identify individual visitors.

Publicly Sourced Exam Data

Our exam pass-rate and exam metrics tools republish information that the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) make, or have historically made, publicly available, including candidate names appearing on official exam passing lists and credential announcements. The CAS discontinued publishing named passing lists in 2025, so CAS name coverage is a historical archive of previously published lists. We display this information for reference and analysis, and we compute aggregate statistics from the same public sources. We do not publish candidate profile pages, and we do not combine this data with any other personal information.

If you would like your name removed from our name lookup tools, ask via the contact form and we will suppress it from the public search index at the next rebuild. Suppression removes your name from our search tools only; it does not and cannot alter the societies' own official publications, and site-wide aggregate statistics are unaffected. We retain the underlying source data internally so that your suppression continues to apply when the data is refreshed.

Third-Party Links

Our articles contain links to external sources including government agencies, professional organizations, patent databases, and news publications. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

Data Security

This site is served over HTTPS. We take reasonable measures to protect any information collected, but no internet transmission is completely secure.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
