How We Curate

Our editorial process for delivering actuarial news

At actuary.info, we believe actuaries and insurance professionals deserve a single, reliable source for the news that matters most to their work. Here is how we build that resource every day.

Our Sources

We monitor over 50 publications, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations daily, including:

  • Professional organizations: Society of Actuaries (SOA), Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), American Academy of Actuaries, International Actuarial Association (IAA)
  • Regulators: National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), state insurance departments, SEC (for insurance-related filings)
  • Industry media: Insurance Journal, Reinsurance News, Artemis (ILS), Business Insurance, Best's News
  • General business and financial press: Coverage of insurance and actuarial topics from major financial publications
  • Academic and research sources: SOA research papers, CAS research, Geneva Association reports

Our Process

1. Discovery

Our automated systems scan source feeds throughout the day, identifying new articles relevant to actuarial practice areas: AI and technology, P&C insurance, health insurance, life and annuities, reinsurance and ILS, quantitative finance, and retirement and pensions.

2. Relevance Scoring

Articles are scored for relevance to actuarial professionals using criteria including: direct impact on actuarial practice, regulatory significance, career implications, and technical depth. This scoring helps surface the most important stories from a high volume of daily insurance news.

3. Human Editorial Review

Every article that appears on actuary.info is reviewed by our editorial team before publication. We verify source credibility, confirm relevance to our audience, categorize articles accurately, and flag stories that warrant deeper analysis. We do not publish articles from sources we cannot verify.

4. Analysis and Context

For the most significant developments, our Insights section provides original analysis and context. These longer articles synthesize information from multiple sources and add perspective drawn from tracking actuarial industry trends over time. All Insights articles are written by our editorial team — they are not generated by AI.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not generate articles with AI. Our editorial commentary, analysis, and Insights articles are written by our team. AI tools assist with article discovery and initial relevance scoring only.
  • We do not republish full articles. We link to original sources and provide brief summaries. We respect the intellectual property of the publications we curate.
  • We do not accept payment for editorial placement. Our advertising and editorial functions are separate. Sponsored content, if ever introduced, will always be clearly labeled.

Our Editorial Standards

  • Accuracy: We link to primary sources wherever possible (regulatory filings, official announcements, peer-reviewed research) over secondary reporting.
  • Timeliness: Our news feed is updated multiple times daily. Articles are dated, and we prioritize recency.
  • Corrections: If we make an error in our editorial content, we correct it promptly and note the correction. To report an error, please use our contact page.
  • Transparency: This page itself is part of our commitment to transparency about how actuary.info operates.
